Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska is the Tribal Government representing approximately 27,000 Tlingit and Haida Indians worldwide. We are a sovereign entity and have a government to government relationship with the United States. The Council's headquarters is in Juneau, Alaska but our commitment to serving the Tlingit and Haida people extends throughout the United States.

 

Business and Economic Development Department (BEDD) of the Central Council is charged with developing and maintaining efforts and programs that promote business and economic development for our tribal constituents and constituent communities that will ultimately result in their self-sufficiency.

FOX Studios Internship and Scholarship Winners Post Their Experiences Online

As you remember, several weeks ago the Central Council, in a partnership with Fox Studios Indian Summer Institute, offered two internships and two $1,000 scholarships to Tribal youth. In a toughest competition that we have witnessed in this program to date (due to a large number of high-quality applications), we ended up selecting Markel Wallace from Saxman and Alexandria Strong from Haines as our interns and scholarship winners.

Today we received a very kind email from Winona Wallace, Markel’s mother. News like this makes us feel proud of what we do here at the Central Council. We would like to share this email with you. Also, there are some links to the Fox Studio’s Indian Summer Institute where you will be able to follow the adventures of our two interns and scholarship winners.

Candidates were rated on the completeness of their applications and demonstrated talent in the Arts. Unfortunately, we had to pick only two young people. The selection was based on the individuals we thought would benefit most from this opportunity.
