About Strategic Planning for Communities and ActionStrategy:
As part of our effort to assist Tribes, municipalities, Native Corporations, non-profits, business and other organizations in our communities to accomplish their goals, Central Council is offering the community workshops called Strategic Planning for Communities.
These workshops are a joint effort to the Central Council Tlingit & Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska (CCTHITA) Business & Economic Development Department, Self-Governance Department, ActionStrategy, and local governments (municipalities, tribes), corporations, and non-profits. Financial support for these workshops is provided through the Economic Development Administration, and facilitation and online tools are provided at no cost to communities.
Over the past three years, the workshop has been provided to a total of twelve communities, in many cases more than once.
Workshops can be customized to the needs of communities. CCTHITA has developed this training program in conjunction with outside expertise, to assist our communities in developing their collective strategic planning skills. For those communities who would like to take advantage of this training opportunity, a two day workshop is being offered in each community. The use of an internet based tool called ActionStrategy is an integral part of the training. Due to demand, funding, and staff limitations, please let us know early about your interest. Workshops are offered on a first come first serve basis but, priority will be given to those communities with the greatest economic need.
Because of the holistic nature of communities, it is important that all groups within the community work together to establish vision and priorities to be included in the Southeast Alaska Comprehensive Economic Development Plan update (or CEDS). Local and Tribal governments/councils/associations as well as businesses, Native Corporations and non-profit service providers are all asked to contribute to the planning process. The efforts of CCTHITA in this endeavor are an offer of assistance and training to interested communities. These efforts should not be construed as an effort to replace the current CEDS process in your community.
As a reminder, the CEDS community project priority list is used by Economic Development Administration to qualify funding of projects. Due to limited funding available across the board from federal agencies, the CEDS is also viewed by those agencies as the pre-established priority list for each community. In other words, with few exceptions, projects on the CEDS list receive priority in funding from federal sources. Community workshops provide opportunities for your community to enhance its work on the CEDS process.
