Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska is the Tribal Government representing approximately 27,000 Tlingit and Haida Indians worldwide. We are a sovereign entity and have a government to government relationship with the United States. The Council's headquarters is in Juneau, Alaska but our commitment to serving the Tlingit and Haida people extends throughout the United States.

 

Business and Economic Development Department (BEDD) of the Central Council is charged with developing and maintaining efforts and programs that promote business and economic development for our tribal constituents and constituent communities that will ultimately result in their self-sufficiency.

Free Tax Assistance



Business and Economic Development Department of CCTHITA in partnership with Alaska Business Development Center (a non-profit) and the Internal Revenue Service, provides:

 

·        Free tax preparation by mail and outreach;

·        Free tax problem resolution;

·        Free tax education.

Services are limited to individuals whose income falls under the following limits:

Household Size / Income Less Than*

1 person / $31,925

2 / $42,800

3  / $53,675

4 / $64,550

Dependent =
+$10,875

The income limitations will not necessarily prevent the ABDC from assisting a taxpayer. However, requests from individuals outside the stated income levels will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Tax Assistance:

Teams of IRS-certified volunteers travel to Southeast Alaska communities each tax season from January to April. Tax returns are filed electronically to ensure quick processing and refunds. If you missed the outreach team, you can file your taxes using the taxes-by-mail service. Travel schedule is announced every December. Please contact ABDC or your local Tribe or Municipality for travel schedule updates. Tax preparation is free. In most cases, volunteers are able to prepare tax returns for prior years - usually up to two years back. To inquire about tax team travel in Southeast Alaska, please call 800/478-3474, ask for Volunteer Tax and Loan Program.

Tax Education and Tax Problem Resolution:

IRS-certified volunteers provide educational presentations on topics such as Earned Income Tax Credit, Dependency Exemptions, and others while in the community.

Tax problem resolution services are provided fee of charge to eligible individuals and families. When necessary, Amended Returns or Prior Year Returns can be prepared by IRS-certified staff. If you received a notice from the IRS and need help, please contact ABDC. For tax problem resolution, please call 800/478-3474, ask for assistance in controversies with the IRS.
